Lacrosse Game and BaskinRobbins! (04/26/2011)

On Tuesday I went with Joe and the kids to his College and watched a Lacrosse game... It was very interesting, because Gonzaga is one of the best teams of College- Lacrosse in DC, but the other team was good too, actually it was better, because in the last quarter they scored two times and won the game 7 to 5! At first it seemed that we'll win because wir waren immer in Fuehrung.
But it was also a very brutal game, because they hitted each other with the stick all the time (to get the ball). But it was a great new experience. ;D

And yesterday I went out with Marika (Sweden) and Bianca (Deutschland) and we went to BaskinRobbins.. and when we arrived there we figured out that it was scoop night!! :D That means one scoop of ice cream for only 31 cents... I still feel bad that I had 4 scoops of this delicious ice, but I always ate Fat free ice, so at least something! ;-) And it was really cheap and only for one day... so we had to use this offer :P

And when we left BaskinRobbins there were suddenly all this police officers... at least 20!!! And they came all for Ice cream!!
besser haetten sa sich auch nicht einparken koennen :P

Leider geht mein Jahr dem Ende zu... Only 3 more month to work and then I am going on my travel month! :D :D And after that I'll head back home!!! So see you soon!! ;-)

Happy Easter (04/24/2011)

That was a really exciting Easter Weekend... On Wednesday I colored some eggs with the kids and it was really hard work to keep them in a good mood, because it took too long for them until the eggs were colored, so they started playing with the eggs until they broke some!! :( But they eggs are still in the fridge since nobody likes to eat them... Then on Thuresday I went with the kids and my hostparents to the Lab, because Ronan doesn't hear too well, so he had to do a blood test, because the doctors think that he has an allergy. Anyway I was waiting with Maeve outside while they stole Ronan's blood and it was horrible... Ronan cried as he would die and Maeve got very scared.. But after that we went for cookies and cupcakes and everything was forgotten! :Ds And then after work I cooked my special Greundonnerstag meal for them (Erdaepfelstertz with spinach and hardboiled egg) and they liked it, especially the Erdaepfelstertz... Even the boy ate everything, although he hates potatos, spinach and eggs!! haha :D Everybody was surprised when he said that he loved it!! :)
Then on Good Friday I went to Church, which was pretty interesting and nice.. On Saturday I went to this Easter Hunt at Lincoln Park which was very exciting...They offered a live band and lots od games for the kids..
Then on Sunday morning I went to church with my hostdad, the kids and my hostdad's parents. We went to the Gonzaga Church (Church of the College where Joe teaches) which was pretty cool, because the mass was very lively... We clapped our hands and sang songs with the choir... BUT the mass took 2 hours!!! But I have to admit, that my kids were really good!!! Back home the kids went on their Easter Hunt. But because of the fact that we have a really small backyard, the kids had to search in our neighbour' garden as well... And then we had at 3pm our big Easter Dinner... We were about 16 people, but it was nice though! We had steak, salmon, asparagus, sweet potatos etc. And for dessert we had some of Joe's mother' homemade Cheesecake and Janice' delicious Chocolate chip cookies!! :D

Visit to the white house (04/16/2011)

Finally I made it into the white house... unfortunatelly it was raining so we got really wet, because we had to wait outside in line.. and then were some girls from my group late, so we had to wait longer... First they checked us on the list (first problem: the sirname of a girl of my group was misspelled... so we had to wait again... then we had to go in line again for this "airport-check" and then we could finally go inside!! But we weren't allowed to bring anything though, only an umbrealla, a wallet, a cell phone which we HAD to turn off and keys... Unfortunately it was really crowed and busy inside, but we took our time and looked at the pictures of several presidents and family very well... then we looked outside the window and gazed at the beautiful garden... the fun thing though was that we also saw up to the fence where all the tourists were, that looked at the White House!! :D
Then we entered the first interessting room, the Vermeil Room, which has a variety of functions. There are portraits of recent first ladies and an extensive collection of silver. And it was also used as a billiard room. Then we saw the Library which contains a lot of books.
After that we gazed at the China Room which contains pieces from china and glass used by the presidents. Then we went upstairs to the East Room, where this nice sectret service guy told us something about the white house and a picture which is in the white house, since they built it. Anyway then we walked through the green (once it was Thomas Jeffersons dining room), blue (the presidents use this room to receive guests) and red room and landed in our last room, the state dining room.. And then, after touching and looking at everything we had to leave the building! :( Unfortunately we saw only a couple rooms since the Obama family was at home (they make a smaller tour then). And then we took some pictures in front of the white house, but my friend took them with her cell phone and she can't download them, so unfortunately I can't show you any pictures this time! :( And of course there were again some strange tourists in front of the white house who yelled something against Obama... However!
I hope you believe me that I really went inside, because this time I can't prove it!! ;P

Baseball Game Nats (Nationals) vs. Phillies (04/14/2011)

On April 14th I went together with my hostparents and a friend of Allison to my first Baseball game! :D
I didn't understand the rules, but it was fun though... Joe always tried to explain me the rules, but I still didn't get it... And since I went there with real americans, I also had to watch the game like a real american, which means eating peanuts and drinking a couple beers... It was really fun, because everybody was in a good mood... But it was also a little crazy, because the Phillies audience was really loud and yeah, crazy! Especially because they won... the Nats were really bad... anyway, after the game we went to Good Stuff and had a good fattening Burger and another beer, although I actually passed... I changed to soda!! :)
It was a really great time and I think I'll watch another game... will see!! :D

Basketball Games

I think Basketball is an exciting sport.. I already watched 3 NBA games... Wizards vs. Bulls, Heats ans Hawks! Unfortunatelly we won only one game and that was against the Hawks, because they were really bad!! They lost almost every ball!! But the game wizards vs. heats was pretty cool.. the players also started to fight!! :D And every time when James (Miami Heats-- he's a new Heats player and many people are upset, because Heats have already a top player and u are not supposed to have more than one.. and people say that he is like a second Michael Jordan) anyway.. everytime when this guy had the ball all the viewer cried "BOOOOO"!! That was kind of funny!! :D Anyways.. I like American sports.. they always have this special entertainment during every game.. like the kissing camera or the dance camera... that's always fun!! :D

Visit from Austria and Cherry Blossom Time! :D (26.3- 10.4. 2011)

On the day I came back from Miami, also Roman and Gerhard arrived in DC!! Most of the time just walked around and I showed them my new "home" (of course they liked it) :P
But we also had to stop and rest a lot, because these two "old guys" ;-) were injured. Gerhard fell down before he ran the marathon and hurt himself really bad... but at least he was able to run the marathon... It was really amusing making fun of their hobble!! :P
But I also had to show them some pubs and the nightlife!! I really enjoyed the time when they were here, but soon I will have accompany again!! :) Moreover they were very lucky, because the week they arrived in DC, also the Cherry Blossom time began. So they could take great pictures of the beautiful pinkish japanese cherry trees. DC is really lively at this time of the year, because everybody wants to see this famous trees! I mean I can understand it, they are really pretty, but this year it was quite chilly and rainy, so the florals didn't turn really pink. :(
Anyways, it was a really great time!! Thanks for coming! ;-)

Miami (03/19-13/2011)

Miami was just perfect!!! I really enjoyed my time there, especially the warm sun and the beach!! :D Even though I had to go alone there.. But luckily I learnt to know lots of new people! :D
I arrived on Saturday at night, so I went out with some people from my hostel.. it was a really fancy but great club, I think it was the best one I went to, while I was in Miami. I lived in Miami South Beach in a really great hostel.. it was one for young people who wants to make party!! ;-) But the best thing is that we always went out together (with the people from the hoste)l and we also had do pay just the half of the price to get in... Anyway, on Sunday I just walked around along the Beach and on Ocean Drive and Collins Avenue, which were really lively. And at night I went to a Club called Nikki Beach, but I didn't like this one at all.. (also Paris Hilton went ther one time)! It was a Club with access to the Beach and there were matresses to relax.. but it was such a big area and the music was bad too... So we went home, because on Monday I had to get up early anyway, because in the morning I went to the Everglades to the Gator Park where I had a Airboat Ride and a Wildlife show!!
And at night I went with Björg (Island) and Valeria (Italy) and some German people to Mansion which was also a great club. But we had to wait some time to get in the club and I don't think that it's a good idea to build a tattoo shop next to a club with drunken people!! Because some german people went into the store to get a tatoo... but luckily they just got a new piercing.. but anyway... crazy people!! :D
Then on Tuesday I went to Key West where I went snorkeling.. But I also walked around in Key West and saw amongst others Mile Zero, Hemmingway's House... And then we finally went by boat out to the carribean sea to go snorkeling! :D And there were these italian guys, who I learnt to know on the bus and this one guy was only 5 minutes in the water and I was thinking why, because he didn't look like that he couldn't swim or snorkel so I asked him on the bus why he was just 5 minutes in the water and he said, that he thought that he saw a SHARK!! and he told this lifeguard, that he saw a shark and this guy just said: "Oh, you are such a luckiy guy to see a shark"!! Anyways, I am soo glad that he didn't tell me this story on the boat, otherwise I wouldn't have gone in the water!! Because going snorkeling was a great experience which I want to repeat one time!! The corals where really beautiful and I also saw some fishis!! :D When I finally returned at the Hostel I was soo tired that I just stayed in the lobby and talked with some brasilian people who I learnt to know the other night!! And on Wednesday I just hung out with some german friends and then we went together to the Airport!! :D
